Young Adult Ministry Symposium: Young Adults and Faith, What Does That Look Like?
For: Leaders in Young Adult Ministry, Liturgy, Social Ministry, Catechetical Ministry, Various Ethnic Communities, Seminarians, Priests, and Social Service Agencies
There has been a growing interest within the Church in the area of young adult ministry because studies are showing that a large percentage of young adult Catholics are disengaged. The Diocese of San Jose, among many others across the country, recognizes this challenge and developed a mission for Young Adult Ministry: to engage young adults in the life of the Catholic faith. This symposium is a dynamic gathering of young adults and ministry leaders who are interested in having a conversation about not just how young adults are engaged in their faith but equally important, how the Church engages them along their journey. In addition, there will be panelists representing young adult leaders from various communities and ministries
who will share their stories about how and why they remain engaged in their faith.
Young Adults: Have We Lost Them?
We do not need to look at research studies to notice the growing number of disengaged Catholics in our churches. Unfortunately, the statistics will only confirm this reality. The most disheartening fact that these studies reveal to us is that the majority of the disengaged are our young adults. The Church now faces a critical challenge as well as an opportunity. As ministry leaders, we need to recognize the challenge and embrace it as an opportunity to grow and continue our mission. Come and explore ways in which we can become more effective in our evangelization to young adults.
Cultural vs Engaged: Re-engaging our Disengaged Catholics
We do not need to look at research studies to notice the growing number of disengaged Catholics in our churches. Unfortunately, the statistics will only confirm this reality. The most disheartening fact that these studies reveal to us is that the majority of the disengaged are our young adults. The Church now faces a critical challenge as well as an opportunity. The challenge is that more of our young adult faithful are becoming faithless. The opportunity is that we, as ministry leaders, can still do something to re-engage the disengaged. Come and explore ways in which we can become more effective in our evangelization to our young people.
